Owatrol Teak Olje is a premium blend of Owatrol Oil and high-quality teak oil, specially formulated to protect and enhance the natural beauty of teak and other exotic hardwoods. Proper surface preparation is essential to ensure maximum penetration and long-lasting performance of Teak Olje.

General Directions

• Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease, grime, mildew, and previous coatings.
• Treat any mildew with a 50/50 bleach/water solution. Scrub onto the surface, let stand 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
• After cleaning or stripping, allow wood to dry 2-3 full drying days or until moisture content is ≤18% before applying Teak Olje.
• Teak Olje may only be applied to bare wood or weathered wood previously treated with Teak Olje. All other finishes must be completely removed.
• If necessary, sand the surface after cleaning/stripping using 100-grit sandpaper.

New Wood

• Interior: Sand with 100-grit paper to open the pores, dust off, and degrease with methylated spirits (denatured alcohol).
• Exterior: Prepare as for interior wood or treat with Aquanett and neutralise with Net-Trol.
• Note: New wood may have a hard, shiny "mill glaze" surface that prevents penetration. Sanding or treating with Aquanett ensures maximum performance.
• Exotic hardwoods such as Iroko, Padouk, or Keruing: consult “restrictions” section before application.

Weathered Wood (Untreated)

• Clean with Net-Trol to remove loose fibres, dirt, and contaminants.
• If heavily soiled, clean with Aquanett and neutralise with Net-Trol.

Previously Oiled or Sealed Surfaces

• All other oils or sealers must be completely removed using Aquanett and neutralised with Net-Trol before applying Teak Olje.

Previously Coated Surfaces (Paint, Stain, Varnish, Waterproofers, etc.)

• All previous coatings must be thoroughly removed using Dilunett and the surface neutralised with Net-Trol before applying Teak Olje.

Other Finishes

• Contact our technical department for guidance before applying Teak Olje over unusual finishes.

Note: Hardwoods, including exotic and tannin-rich species such as Teak, Iroko, Merbau, and Oak, may darken during stripping with Aquanett or Dilunett. Neutralising immediately with Net-Trol will restore the wood’s natural colour.

Teak Olje can be applied using a brush, roller, airless sprayer, or garden sprayer. Follow these steps to ensure deep penetration, even coverage, and a rich, matt finish.

Preparation & Conditions

• Use Teak Olje as is; do not thin.
• Shake or stir thoroughly before and during application.
• Cover anything you do not wish to coat, including plants and shrubs.
• Apply at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C. Do not apply if cold or wet weather is expected within 24 hours.
• Never apply in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces.
• Wood should be clean, dry, and properly prepped (see prep instructions).

Application Technique

• Always work the full length of a piece of wood to a logical break; never stop mid-piece.
• Vertical surfaces should be coated from top to bottom.
• Do not allow Teak Olje to become touch dry between coats; always apply wet-on-wet.
• After spraying, back-brush or back-roll to improve penetration and uniform coverage.

Coating Procedure

• Apply the first coat and allow 15-20 minutes for penetration.
• Apply the second coat while the first is still wet; repeat until the wood is fully saturated.
• Brush out or wipe away any excess oil with a lint-free cloth 15-20 minutes after the final coat to prevent shiny spots.

Notes

• Teak Olje is not a surface coating; it penetrates into the wood, nourishing it from within.
• It provides a rich, matt finish while protecting the wood from moisture and UV damage.

Maintenance

• Teak Olje will gradually lighten over time due to sun and UV exposure.
• When the wood appears un-oiled or has lightened to a pale grey, it is time for maintenance.
• Clean the surface thoroughly with Net-Trol before re-oiling.
• Apply Teak Olje until the wood is fully saturated; usually 1–2 applications are sufficient to restore the finish.

Storage

• Transfer any leftover Teak Olje to a smaller, airtight container made of metal or glass.
• Keep the product away from freezing temperatures and extreme heat to preserve its quality.

Proper maintenance and storage will ensure long-lasting protection and a rich, matt finish for your teak and exotic hardwoods.

Faulty Items
