One of the most versatile woodstains on the market, Sadolin's All Purpose Woodstain can be used on a wide variety of wooden surfaces, both interior and exterior. It absorbs deeply into the timber to provide superb weather protection. It can be used on its own on decking, fences, and cladding or as a basecoat on new windows and doors.

Always ensure the surface to be painted is clean, dry, and dirt free to ensure adhesion.
- Degrease any exposed bare timber by wiping with a cloth dampened with methylated spirits.
- Fill any surface defects, imperfections, or open joints with an appropriate filler such as Sadolin Stainable Woodfiller.
- Only use non-ferrous screws, nails, and fixings.
- Any non-preservative treated softwood timber should be treated with two coats of Sadolin Quick Dry Wood Preserver.
- Base Stained Joinery - Lightly abraded in the direction of the grain but do not break the surface coating.
We recommend always following the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. Stir thoroughly, it is recommended that a small test area is applied before treating the entire surface to ensure compatibility.
- Do not apply if there is a risk of rain or if temperatures are below 8°C and above 25°C.
- Supplied ready to use do not thin.
- Apply using a good quality, long-haired, soft bristle brush, applying in the direction of the wood grain.
- Work well into joints and ensure end grains are coated to saturation, redistribute the coating after 10-15minutes
- Do not overspread.
- Allow to dry for 16-24 hours before applying another coat or 2 coats of an appropriate top coat such as Sadolin Yacht Varnish or Sadolin Extra Woodstain.
On Joinery to ensure optimum durability and uniformity of appearance, we recommend the use of an overall coat of Sadolin Classic prior to finishing with 2 full coats of Sadolin Extra Woodstain.
Q. How often do I maintain Sadolin Classic All Purpose Woodstain?
A. It is highly dependant of the amount of wear and location of the area this product has been applied to. In higher traffic areas you may need a yearly maintenance, if you do require a hard wearing surface for interiors we recommend a system of one coat Classic and two coats Sadolin Extra Durable Varnish. For exterior surfaces a system of one coat Classic and two coats Extra Durable Woodstain is recommended for extra protection. Do not apply more than one coat of Classic in these systems as it can cause the top coats to not adhere to the surface.
Q. Can I use white spirit to remove dirt and degreaser to prepare the surface?
A. No, it is advised to use methylated spirits when preparing the surface. You need to ensure that the surface is well sanded with a fine to medium grit sandpaper, then use methylated spirit to remove any grease. If the preparation is lacking or done incorrectly this will affect the product's ability to adhere and may affect the finish.
