Osmo UV Protection Oil Satin is a natural oil-based finish for exterior wood including doors, windows, shutters, cladding, fences and summer houses. Formulated to protect vertical exterior wood, it delays the natural greying process and reduces wood swelling and shrinkage. With the added film protection that contains active ingredients, it protects against mould, algae and fungal attacks. Available here in transparent colour finishes, it also comes in a clear finish

Tinted Colour Information

Tinted paint is custom mixed in house at Next Day Paint using our Osmo tinting machine. We mix the paint on site, which means we can offer our usual fast delivery with no extra delay. Tinted Colour Match paints can't be cancelled or returned as they are tinted to order.

Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, algae, fungi or moss.

New Wood

• Fresh wood containing natural wood ingredients /extractives (e.g.: Cedar, Teak, Mahogany or Iroko) are often less absorbent and need to weather off first. Weathering helps ingredient rich wood become more absorbent and the wood finish adheres optimally. Weathering is also required if the existing surface has been freshly sanded or renovated.
• Surfaces should be sanded with a 120 grit abrasive and no finer.
• Ensure the surface is clean before application.
• Fill any cracks or gaps with a suitable wood filler.

Old Wood

• Clean existing microporous stains (wood oils) thoroughly, if necessary sand lightly to remove.
• Algae, mould and moss can be removed with Osmo Gard Cleaner.
• Restore greyed and weathered wood with Osmo Wood Reviver.
• Old paints and lacquers must be removed.
• If desired, pre-treat softwoods, if possible on all sides, with Osmo WR Base Coat.

Before applying stir the product thoroughly and test a small area to ensure colour and adhesion. Colours can vary dependent on the surface to be treated.

• Do not thin.
• Stir well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.
• Apply along the wood grain thinly with a Osmo Soft Tip Flat Brush or other suitable brush.
• Work the oil into the surface of the wood.
• Allow to dry for 12 hours under good ventilation.
• Apply a second coat as above.

Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning will ensure your surfaces will stay looking good for longer, clean with Osmo Exterior Spray Cleaner.

If intensive cleaning is necessary use Osmo Wood Reviver or Osmo Gard Cleaner.

Maintenance

Simply re-apply one coat onto the clean and dry surface when signs of wear become visible.

Q. How to manage the natural appearance of the exterior wood with Osmo UV Protection Oil?

A. It's important to note that wood colour will naturally fade over time. However, Osmo UV-Protection Oil is designed to significantly delay this greying process, offering a UV factor that is 12 times more effective than untreated wood. For those seeking to preserve colour for an extended duration, transparent coloured choices like UV Protection Oil Tints or Natural Oil Wood Stain from Osmo are worth considering.

Q. Can Osmo UV Protection Oil be used as a top-coat?

A. Osmo UV-Protection-Oil Clear as top coat on already coloured treated wood, extends intervals between renovations significantly. But, because this oil has a lot in it, it might make white areas look a bit yellow if you use it as the final layer. So, if you're working on white parts, it's better to use Natural Oil Woodstain 900 White on top instead.

Q. Can Osmo UV Protection Oil be used for interior wood?

A. This product contains a biocide to protect the film from biocidal growth this would not be suitable for the inside of your home. We would recommend the osmo 410 which is the biocide free version of this product.

Q. Can Osmo UV Protection Oil be used on external painted wood doors?

A. As this is an oil this will need to penetrate through the wood, having a layer of paint over the top of the wood will act like a barrier to prevent penetration. It would be advised to strip back the paint to bare wood before applying this product.

Faulty Items
