Ensure the surface is clear from debris, dry and frost-free
- Clean old microporous stains thoroughly.
- Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed by sanding or using a paint stripper such as Osmo's Paint Stripper. Do not sand smooth surfaces finer than grit P120.
- If you have weathered or greying wood it may affect the finished colour we would advise using Osmo's Wood Reviver Power Gel prior to application.
- If additional protection against blue stain, rot and insects is desired, pre-treat the wood if possible on all sides with Osmo WR Base Coat.
Note: Fresh, especially hardwood rich in extractives needs to weather off for approximately 6 weeks after installation. Thereby the wood becomes absorbent and the oil finish adheres optimally.
Before applying the product test a small area on the surface to be treated to ensure you are happy with the finished results. Results are influenced by the condition of the wood therefore a trial application is highly recommended.
- Stir the product thoroughly.
- Apply using a brush we recommend using Osmo's Flat Brush.
- Apply thinly evenly along the wood grain and spread well.
- Allow to dry for 12 hours under good ventilation.
- Apply a second coat as above.
Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the bottle.
Cleaning
Damp cleaning with Osmo Spray Cleaner. Using general or multi-purpose cleaners will increase the frequency of maintenance and recoating.
Maintenance
If necessary, intensive cleaning and refreshing using Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel or Osmo Gard Cleaner.
Recoating
Simply re-apply one coat onto the clean and dry surface when signs of wear become visible.
Q. Can Osmo UV-Protection Oil Be Applied To Decking?
A. Osmo UV-Protection Oil is formulated for use on vertically oriented surfaces, including cladding, fencing, doors, and similar structures. For optimal UV protection on wood decking, we suggest choosing a slightly tinted wood colour from the range of Decking Oils.
Q. What is the Difference Between Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra Clear and Osmo UV Protection Oil Tints?
A. Transparent coatings come in coloured shades that let the wood's natural features show through, keeping a genuinely clear look. On the other hand, clear coatings lack colour pigments, giving the wood a warm, rich, and intensified colour. Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra is a clear oil that protects wood from UV rays while preserving its natural look. In contrast, Osmo UV Protection Oil Tints offers UV protection along with coloured pigments, enabling you to alter or enhance the wood's colour while safeguarding it.
Q. How do the Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra (410) and (420) differ?
A. The key distinction lies in the inclusion of fungicides and biocides in the Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra (420). This addition provides protection against mold, algae, and fungal growth. As a result, the Osmo UV Protection Oil (410), lacking fungicides and biocides, is suitable for both interior and exterior wood surfaces, while the Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra (420) is specifically designed for exterior use due to its mold and algae resistance properties.
