    Overview

Add a touch of the extraordinary. Annie Sloan Pearlescent Glaze is a water-based, light-reflecting decorative finish that brings a sublime, lustrous shimmer to painted and unpainted furniture, walls and floors, the kind of high-end opalescent quality that transforms an ordinary piece into something truly special.

Apply over Chalk Paint™ for an intense, iridescent effect, it works most beautifully over lighter colours like Old White, where the pearlescent quality really comes alive. Use it to highlight mouldings, cornicing and carvings, where its light-reflective properties catch the eye and emphasise every detail. Or mix in a tiny amount of Chalk Paint™ to create your own gently shimmering, translucent opaline shades.

    • Light-reflecting pearlescent finish - lustrous, high-end opalescence on furniture, walls and floors
    • Works over Chalk Paint™ or bare surfaces - most intense over lighter colours such as Old White
    • Mix with Chalk Paint™ - create bespoke shimmering, translucent opaline shades
    • Highlights mouldings and detail - light-reflective quality emphasises carvings, cornicing and structural details beautifully
    • Durable finish similar to Lacquer - often no additional Wax or Lacquer needed

    Preparation
    • Mix well before use to disperse the pearlescent particles evenly throughout the Glaze.
    • Always paint a test patch in several areas before starting your project.
    • Ensure the surface is clean, dry and dust-free before applying.
    • For best results, apply over fully dry Chalk Paint™.
    • For high-traffic areas such as kitchens or floors, apply a coat of Chalk Paint™ Lacquer over the dry Chalk Paint™ before applying Pearlescent Glaze, this ensures the entire piece is protected beneath the Glaze.
    Application

Always test the product on a small, inconspicuous area before full application to ensure compatibility and desired results.

    • Apply one or two coats using an Annie Sloan Flat Brush for broad coverage, a Detail Brush for intricate or patterned work, or a Sponge Roller or paint sprayer for the smoothest possible finish.
    • Note that brushstrokes and marks will be accentuated by the light-reflective qualities of the Glaze, embrace this for a handcrafted feel, or use a roller for a more uniform result.
    • For a bone inlay effect: apply your base colour, paint the inlay pattern in Old White using a Detail Brush, then layer Pearlescent Glaze over the Old White markings.
    • To tint: add a very small amount of Chalk Paint™ in your chosen colour to the Glaze and mix well, use sparingly, as too much paint will reduce the pearlescent effect.
    • Once dry, Pearlescent Glaze provides a durable finish in most cases without the need for additional Wax or Lacquer.
    • If sealing with Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax after applying decorative Glaze details, wipe away any excess wax from glazed areas immediately to keep the finish bright.
    Aftercare & Storage

Clean with a damp cloth and mild soapy water - avoid harsh chemicals. Re-apply as and when necessary to refresh the finish.

Wash brushes and rollers in warm soapy water immediately after use. For best results, use Pearlescent Glaze within one year of purchase.

    FAQs

    Q. Do I need to seal Pearlescent Glaze with Wax or Lacquer once applied?

    A. In most cases, no, Pearlescent Glaze dries to a durable finish similar to Lacquer and provides sufficient protection on its own without the need for an additional sealing coat. However, for high-traffic areas such as kitchen surfaces or floors, it is worth applying a coat of Chalk Paint™ Lacquer over the Glaze once dry for extra protection. If you are applying Glaze as a decorative detail over a piece that has been finished with Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax, simply wipe away any excess wax from the glazed areas immediately to keep the pearlescent finish bright and clear.

    Q. What colours and surfaces does Pearlescent Glaze work best on?

    A. Pearlescent Glaze is most effective over lighter Chalk Paint™ colours, Old White is Annie's top recommendation, as the pale base allows the opalescent quality to fully shine. Over darker colours the effect will be more subtle, though still beautiful. It can also be applied to bare, unpainted surfaces. For the most intense, luminous result, apply two coats over a light Chalk Paint™ base. If you want to introduce a hint of colour, mix a very small amount of Chalk Paint™ into the Glaze to create your own bespoke opaline shade, just be careful not to add too much, as this will reduce the pearlescent effect.
