    Overview

Timbabuild® ERC10 by Chemfix is a high-strength, two-part, solvent-free epoxy wood repair filler designed for repairing timber that is subject to stress, impact and everyday wear. Its advanced epoxy formulation provides a strong, durable repair that does not shrink and can also be used as a powerful adhesive for timber repairs and splicing applications.

Ideal for professional timber restoration, sash window repairs, joinery and general wood repair, ERC10 is designed to make demanding timber repairs straightforward while helping restore the strength and integrity of damaged wood.

ERC10 can be used in conjunction with the Timbabuild® EWS Epoxy Wood Stabiliser system. EWS penetrates and strengthens weakened timber fibres before ERC10 is applied, creating a comprehensive repair system for areas affected by decay or timber deterioration.

The specially designed side-by-side cartridge and extrusion tool provide accurate dispensing of the two components. Once dispensed, the resin and activator are mixed to produce a smooth, workable filler that can be shaped to suit the repair.

Once cured, ERC10 can be sanded, machined and drilled, and will accept nails, screws and other fixings. It is also suitable for overcoating with most decorative wood finishes.

    Preparation

Correct preparation is essential for achieving a strong, long-lasting timber repair.

Before applying ERC10, remove all rotten, decayed, loose or otherwise unsound timber from the repair area. The remaining timber should be clean, sound and suitable for bonding.

For repairs forming part of the Timbabuild Wood Repair System:

    • Remove damaged, decayed and discoloured timber using a suitable router, chisel or other appropriate cutting tool.
    • Lightly sand the exposed timber to provide a clean surface with a suitable key for the repair.
    • Check the moisture content of the timber using a suitable moisture meter. The timber should have a moisture content of 18% or less.
    • Allow damp timber to dry naturally or, where appropriate, carefully use a hot-air gun.
    • Apply Timbabuild EWS Epoxy Wood Stabiliser to the exposed bare timber before applying ERC10.
    Application
    1. Prepare the timber: Remove all rotten, decayed or unsound timber from the repair area. Ensure the remaining timber is clean, dry and sound, with a moisture content of 18% or below.
    2. Apply EWS Primer: For repairs using the Timbabuild system, apply Timbabuild EWS Epoxy Wood Stabiliser to the exposed bare timber. Allow approximately 20 minutes for the EWS to penetrate before applying ERC10. ERC10 can be applied while the EWS is still wet, within the manufacturer's recommended application window.
    3. Load the cartridge: Fit the ERC10 side-by-side cartridge into the dedicated extrusion tool with the product label facing upwards.
    4. Dispense the product: Extrude the required amount onto a clean mixing board. When using a new cartridge, discard the first 10 ml of material.
    5. Mix thoroughly: Using a clean spatula or knife, mix the two components until a smooth, evenly coloured and streak-free consistency is achieved. Scrape the material clear of the mixing board and spatula at least once during mixing to ensure the resin and activator are fully incorporated.
    6. Apply ERC10: Apply the mixed filler directly to the prepared repair area, ensuring good contact with the surrounding sound timber. For splicing repairs, apply ERC10 to the prepared edges before fitting the replacement timber.
    7. Remove excess material: Shape the repair and remove any excess ERC10 before it cures, where practical.
    8. Allow to cure: Leave the repair to cure fully. ERC10 is designed for rapid, same-day repairs and can generally be prepared for finishing within several hours at approximately 20–35°C. Cooler temperatures will increase curing times.
    9. Finish the repair: Once fully cured, ERC10 can be sanded, machined or drilled and will accept nails and screws. The repaired area can then be overcoated with most decorative wood finishes.
    Aftercare & Storage

Once the repair and decorative coating have fully cured, the repaired timber can be treated in the same way as surrounding sound timber.

    • Keep the repaired area protected with a suitable exterior or interior decorative coating as appropriate.
    • Inspect timber repairs periodically for cracking, coating failure, moisture ingress or further deterioration.
    • Address any damage to the protective coating promptly to prevent moisture reaching the timber.
    • Avoid exposing the repair to excessive moisture before the complete repair and finishing system has cured.
    • Where the repair is used on exterior joinery such as sash windows, maintain the surrounding paint system as part of normal timber maintenance.
    • If new timber deterioration is identified, investigate and address the underlying source of moisture or decay rather than simply filling over the affected area.

    Storage

Store Timbabuild ERC10 in its original cartridge and packaging, securely closed and protected from unsuitable environmental conditions.

    • Store in a dry, suitable location.
    • Protect from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
    • Keep cartridges clean and free from contamination.
    • Do not use material that has exceeded its stated shelf life or appears to have been compromised.
    • Minimum shelf life is 24 months when stored correctly.

Always follow the storage conditions, safety information and handling instructions provided on the current product packaging and Safety Data Sheet.
