Timbabuild EWS Epoxy Wood Stabiliser - 300ml

Chemfix Epoxy Wood Stabiliser (EWS) is a specially formulated, two-part, low-viscosity, solvent-free epoxy resin primer designed to penetrate deep into weakened timber and strengthen the wood fibres before repair.

EWS forms an important part of the Timbabuild Wood Repair System and is designed for use in conjunction with ERC10 Epoxy Rapid Cure and EHB60 Epoxy High Build. It is suitable for both interior and exterior timber repairs and is particularly useful when restoring timber that has been weakened by decay or deterioration.

Its low-viscosity formulation allows the stabiliser to penetrate into the prepared timber, helping create a stronger and more stable surface for the subsequent epoxy repair.

The convenient dispensing system uses pre-measured chambers to help achieve the correct 2:1 base-to-activator mixing ratio, making preparation simple and consistent.

Correct preparation is essential to ensure the EWS penetrates effectively and provides a suitable base for the subsequent timber repair.

1. Remove damaged timber: Remove all damaged, decayed and discoloured wood using a suitable tool such as a router, chisel or other appropriate cutting tool.
2. Prepare the surface: Lightly sand the exposed timber to provide a clean, sound surface and promote good adhesion.
3. Check moisture content: Use a suitable moisture meter to check the timber. The moisture content must be 18% or below.
4. Allow damp timber to dry: If the timber is damp, allow it to dry naturally or carefully use a hot-air gun before applying EWS.
5. Ensure the area is clean: Remove any remaining dust, loose material or contamination before application.

1. Prepare the dispensing chambers: Remove the right-hand white cap above the dispensing chamber.
2. Fill the chambers: Squeeze the cartridge until the dispensing chambers are filled with liquid.
3. Dispense the components: Dispense the required amount into a separate clean mixing container, using one chamber of base for every one chamber of activator to achieve the required overall 2:1 mixing ratio.
4. Mix thoroughly: Thoroughly agitate the two components together for approximately one minute, ensuring they are fully combined before application.
5. Apply EWS: Using a suitable disposable brush, apply the mixed EWS directly to the prepared bare timber. Ensure the repair area is thoroughly coated and allow the stabiliser to penetrate the timber.
6. Allow to cure: Leave the EWS for approximately 20 minutes. The subsequent ERC10 or EHB60 repair can be applied while the EWS is still wet or tacky.
7. Application window: The repair can be applied from approximately 20 minutes after EWS application and up to 4 hours afterwards.

Important: The 2:1 mixing ratio must be strictly observed to ensure the product cures correctly and performs as intended.

Use disposable brushes when applying EWS, as brushes cannot be reliably cleaned once the epoxy has been mixed and applied.

Once the EWS has been applied and the subsequent ERC10 or EHB60 repair has cured, follow the finishing and aftercare instructions for the relevant repair system.

• Do not disturb or contaminate the treated timber before the repair material is applied.
• Apply the subsequent epoxy repair within the recommended 20-minute to 4-hour application window.
• Once the complete repair has cured, sand and finish the repaired area in accordance with the instructions for the relevant repair product.
• For exterior timber, protect the completed repair with a suitable decorative coating to help prevent moisture ingress.
• Inspect repaired timber periodically for signs of coating failure, moisture ingress or further deterioration.
• Maintain the surrounding protective coating system as part of normal timber maintenance.

Storage Instructions

Store Chemfix EWS in its original packaging in a suitable dry location, protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

• Keep the product securely closed when not in use.
• Keep the dispensing chambers and containers clean and free from contamination.
• Store in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended storage conditions.
• Keep away from excessive heat and sources of ignition.
• Do not use the product if it has been stored incorrectly or is outside its stated shelf life.
• Keep out of reach of children and follow the relevant safety information and Safety Data Sheet.

Important: Always ensure the correct 2:1 mixing ratio is maintained and refer to the current manufacturer's technical and safety documentation before use.
