Tinted Colour Information

Tinted paint is custom mixed in house at Next Day Paint using our Tikkurila tinting machine. We mix the paint on site, which means we can offer our usual fast delivery with no extra delay. Tinted Colour Match paints can't be cancelled or returned as they are tinted to order. Note: Depending on the amount of colourant required to mix your chosen colour, there may be up to a 10% variant on the advertised paint volume.

Clean Up	Remove as much paint as possible from the equipment before cleaning with water

Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dirt and grease.

Previously painted surfaces: Wash the surface with Tikkurila Maalipesu cleaning agent or suitable cleaning solution and rinse carefully with water. Remove loose, flaking paint or lacquer with a scraper and sand the whole surface. Repair any cracks or holes with appropriate filler. Sand the hard, glossy and factory-painted surfaces to non-glossy and thoroughly dust surface. Remove sanding dust before starting painting. Prime with Helmi Pohjamaali or Otex Akva adhesion primer.

Unpainted surfaces:f Prime new wood and wood fiberboard surfaces with Helmi Pohjamaali. For absorbent porous surfaces, priming using a primer thinned 5–10% followed by intermediate sanding is recommended. Then, paint the surface with an unthinned primer.

Prime surfaces which needs special adhesion with Otex Akva. Metal surfaces need to be primed before application.

Prime knotty and yellowed wood with Multistop Primer.

Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results

• Stir thoroughly before use to ensure the paint is completely mixed.
• Apply 1 or 2 coats of Helmi 10 by brush, roller or sprayer.
• Before application, thin if necessary, up to 5% with water, in sufficient amount of paint from one production batch to avoid possible colour difference.
• On large surfaces, it is recommended to first apply the paint with a roller and then level the coat with a brush.
• If the undercoat is an alkyd primer, the final adhesion with the primer is reached after two weeks of applying the primer. During this time, avoid sticking masking tape, for example, on the surface.

Always follow manufacturer's instructions found on the tin

Store the paint in dry conditions and protect from extremes of temperature.

After use firmly secure the lid.

Any colored stains from coffee, tea, etc. must be wiped off immediately.

If needed, at the earliest after approx. 1 month from painting: Clean the surface with a neutral (pH 6-8) dishwashing solution and a soft brush, sponge or cleaning cloth. Clean very dirty surfaces with a lightly alkaline (pH 8-10) dishwashing solution and with cleaning cloth or sponge. Rinse the surface carefully. The surfaces must be handled with care during few weeks after finishing as the paint will reach its final hardness in normal circumstances after one month. If the surfaces need to be cleansed soon after finishing they must be cleansed lightly with a soft brush or a damp cleaning cloth.

Q. Which of the two, Helmi 10 or Helmi 30, exhibits superior stain resistance and self-leveling properties?

Ans. Beyond the main difference in sheen levels—Helmi 10 offering a matte finish(10% Sheen) and Helmi 30 providing a semi-matte finish with a subtle shine(30% Sheen)—both Helmi 10 and Helmi 30 showcase remarkable stain resistance and excellent self-leveling properties, making them well-suited for a diverse range of interior applications. Your choice between the two will depend on your aesthetic preferences and the specific requirements of the surfaces you plan to paint.

Q.Does Tikkurila Helmi 10 need a primer?

Ans. If a surface has been previously coated with HELMI finishing paint, it can be repainted for maintenance without the need for a primer.

Q.What is the recommended maximum thinning percentage for Helmi topcoats when considering the application method?

Ans.Thinning Helmi furniture paints by more than 20% is not recommended. Kindly refer to the technical datasheet to find the thinning ratio relevant to your application method.

Q.Which paint, Helmi or Everal Aqua, is better for painting kitchen cabinets?

Ans.Both Helmi and Everal Aqua are suitable for painting kitchen units, and both can yield excellent outcomes. Many customers favor Helmi for this purpose because it's designed for furniture painting, with remarkable self-leveling properties and superior scrub resistance compared to Everal Aqua. On the other hand, Everal Aqua is known for its ease of application when compared to Helmi. The choice may depend on your specific preferences and project requirements.

What are the application conditions for optimal results with Helmi 10?

Ans.Whether you are using Helmi 10 or Helmi 30, for best results, ensure the surface is dry, the ambient temperature is at least +8 °C, and the relative humidity is below 80%. A slightly lower temperature (+15 °C) and higher humidity (50–70% RH) can extend the paint's open time, facilitating easier application.
