Follow this simple process to tint your DRY FLEX® repair compound and achieve colour-matched wood repairs:
- Dispense the required amount of DRY FLEX® onto a clean mixing plate.
- Thoroughly mix DRY FLEX® components A + B with a spatula until the compound has a smooth, uniform colour.
- Add a few drops (approximately 1%) of your chosen Universal Colour Pigment to the mixed DRY FLEX®. Start small - the pigments are highly concentrated.
- Mix the resin and pigment thoroughly until the repair compound has a consistent, even colour that matches the wood you’re repairing.
- Fill the repair area with the coloured DRY FLEX® mixture, using your normal application technique.
- Once fully cured, sand the repair flush with the surrounding surface.
- Choose an appropriate coating system based on the application. If the object will be exposed to UV light, make sure the coating contains a UV blocker for long-lasting results.
Tips for Best Results
- Always refer to the Repair Care colour chart for accurate mixing ratios and tone selection.
- Test your tinted mix on a sample piece before applying it to the actual surface to verify the colour match.
- Only add pigment to the DRY FLEX® resin before hardener - not after hardening begins.
Q. How much pigment should I add to DRY FLEX®?
A.The Universal Colour Pigments are highly concentrated, so only a small amount is required. Start with a few drops (around 1%) and mix thoroughly. Gradually add more if needed until the desired shade is achieved. Always avoid exceeding the recommended mixing ratios to maintain full product performance.
Q. Can I adjust the colour after adding the hardener?
A.No. The pigment should always be added and adjusted before adding the hardener. Once the hardener is mixed in, the working time is limited and the colour can no longer be accurately adjusted. Always finalise the shade first, then add the hardener and proceed with the repair.
