Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat is a water-based undercoat designed as part of a high-performance system for use with the Crown Trade Fastflow top coats. Formulated with Breatheasy® technology, it offers low odour, quick drying and excellent flow, ideal for reducing downtime on-site. This undercoat delivers strong adhesion and a smooth, even base, ensuring optimal finish and durability when overcoated with Fastflow top coats. It’s also BREEAM® and LEED® accredited, making it a more sustainable decorating choice.

Tinted Colour Information

Tinted paint is custom mixed in house at Next Day Paint using our Crown Trade tinting machine. We mix the paint on site, which means we can offer our usual fast delivery with no extra delay.

Tinted Colour Match paints can't be cancelled or returned as they are tinted to order.

A tinted primer can be used to help obtain the true depth of colour for your top coat or to reduce the amount of coats required when a drastic colour change is occurring. A tinted primer will not necessarily be the same colour as your selected topcoat. It will be tinted towards the topcoat colour and generally lighter in shade. For example if your topcoat is black your primer may be a shade of grey. If you are unsure about when a tinted primer is required please contact us and we can advise further.

All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.

New Wood Surfaces

• Remove all dust.
• Timber with oils/extractives must be swabbed with clean methylated spirits, frequently changing the face of the cloths.
• Treat any knots with two coats of fresh knotting.
• Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with Sandtex Ready Mixed Filler. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust.
• At the end of preparation prime the surface with one coat of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat.

New metals

• Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface – excluding galvanised surfaces.
• Prime the surface with one coat of Crown Trade Protective Coatings High Build Rust Inhibiting Primer Undercoat or Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer, then bring forward with one coat of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat.

Galvanised Metal

• Bright galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with Crown Trade Protective Coatings T Wash. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface preparation.
• When dry, prime with one coat of Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Primer or Crown Trade Water Based Metal Primer.

Non-ferrous metals

• Prime bare metal with one coat of Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Primer or Crown Trade Water Based Metal Primer.

Ferrous Metals

• Remove all millscale and rust back to clean bright metal. Remove all residues.
• Prime within the working day with one coat of Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Primer or two coats of Crown Trade Water Based Metal Primer.

Previously Decorated Wood Surfaces

• Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint. Remove grey and denatured surfaces by rubbing down with abrasive paper.
• Feather edges of sound paint.
• Remove all dust.
• Organic growth must be treated with Sandtex Trade Fungicidal Solution and removed.
• Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting.
• Fill any fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with Sandtex Ready Mixed Filler or 2 pack wood filler.
• Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water.
• Wet abrade to provide a key.
• Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry.
• Spot prime bare areas with one coat of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat.

Previously Decorated Metal Surfaces

• Remove all corrosion or rust back to clean bright metal.
• Organic growth must be treated with Crown Trade Fungicidal Solution and removed.
• Spot prime areas with Crown Trade Protective Coatings High Build Rust Inhibiting Primer Undercoat or Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer. Allow to dry.
• Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water.
• Any glossy or eggshell surfaces must be wet abraded to provide a key.
• Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry.
• Bring forward spot primed areas and undercoat overall with Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat.

Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results

• Stir well before and during use.
• Apply 1 coat using a good quality synthetic brush or a good quality synthetic brush or short/medium pile roller. To assist application on porous substrates the surface may be dampened slightly. For airless spray (dilution may be required). For further information follow the spray manufacturer’s guidelines. Maintain a wet edge. On timber lay off in the direction of the grain.
• Avoid excessive de-nibbing in-between coats.
• Always intermix packs for colour consistency. Please check for colour accuracy prior to application. Crown Paints or Next Day Paint is not liable for decorating costs caused as a result of an incorrect colour being applied.
• Newly painted doors and windows should not be closed until the paint is fully dry.

Note: Certain colours may require additional coats to give complete obliteration.

Under normal and frost free conditions this product will remain usable for up to two years if stored correctly and unopened. Store in secure dry conditions between 5°C and 40°C and inaccessible to children or animals. Containers should be kept closed during storage.

We recommend ordering samples or colour charts before purchasing. While we strive to represent colours accurately, screen settings and surface types can affect appearance. Opened tins cannot be returned due to dissatisfaction with colour.

Incorrect Item

Faulty Items

Faulty items can be refunded or exchanged within 30 days. All returns are tested, and if no fault is found, no refund will be issued you'll have the option to have the item returned. For faults discovered after 30 days, please contact the manufacturer for further support.
