• All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dirt, and other contaminants before application.
• Use a suitable cleaner such as Coo-Var Degreaser to remove any oil or grease prior to surface treatment.
• Dust, rust, and mill scale must be removed completely from bare steel surfaces.
• Blast cleaning to SA 2½ standard is highly recommended for optimal surface preparation and adhesion.
• If blast cleaning is impractical, use mechanical cleaning (e.g., wire brushing, grinding, or power tools).
• Hand cleaning is not sufficient, as it cannot achieve the necessary level of surface cleanliness for long-term performance.
• If blast cleaning is done after assembly, pay special attention to: edges and corners, nuts and bolts, weld seams and joints.
• Welds should be ground smooth if required, and all slag, weld spatter, and sharp edges must be removed to ensure proper coating adhesion.

• Apply only in conditions where the surface temperature is above the dew point to prevent condensation and contamination.
• In confined or enclosed spaces, ensure there is adequate ventilation throughout application and drying.
• Apply using brush, roller, or airless spray, following standard good painting practices.
• Aim for even, full coverage across the surface.
• Avoid over-application or excessive film build-up, especially in corners and weld seams.
• Once the primer is fully dry (typically touch dry in 2 hours, hard dry in 12 hours), overcoat with a suitable finishing coat for added protection and durability.

A. Coo-Var Red Oxide Metal Primer should only be applied to properly prepared surfaces. Any loose rust, mill scale, or flaky material must be removed first—ideally by blast cleaning (SA 2½ standard) or mechanical methods. The cleaner the surface, the better the primer will perform.

Q. Do I need to apply a topcoat over the primer?

A. Yes, for complete protection and durability, a suitable topcoat is recommended after the primer has fully dried. The Red Oxide Primer provides an excellent base, but a finishing coat will enhance corrosion resistance and achieve your desired final appearance.

Faulty Items
