Always ensure the area is free from grease, dirt, and any contaminants that may affect the application.
- For freshly laid wood, allow it to acclimatise in the room for several days before treating; the moisture content should be below 15%.
- Previous coatings must be fully sanded back before application, as they can affect adhesion and the finished durability of Armourflex Worktop Oil.
- Resinous deposits should be removed with a scraper, and the surface degreased with methylated spirits.
- Repair cracks or open joints with a suitable wood filler.
- We recommend using 120–150 grit sandpaper to achieve a smooth surface on the wood. The Indasa Abrasive Sponges are a great option, as they prevent over-sanding and help give a nice, even finish.
- Remove any sanding dust thoroughly before application.
- If required, apply wood dye. Test the colour and compatibility with any dyes on a scrap piece of wood before use.
Ensure good ventilation is maintained during application and throughout the drying process. Conduct a test patch before commencing any project.
- Read the full label instructions and stir the tin well before application. Armourflex Worktop Oil is ready to use and does not require thinning.
- Apply in thin coats; do not overapply.
- Tight-grain hardwoods require less product to achieve the final finish.
- Stated drying times are based on average climatic conditions.
- Use a short-pile roller, good-quality brush, or lint-free cloth and apply in the direction of the wood grain.
- If a second coat is required, key the surface with light sandpaper.
- Apply the second coat sparingly and wipe off any excess that is not absorbed.
- Overapplication can reduce the finish quality and prolong drying time.
- On previously treated timber, one coat is normally sufficient; a maximum of two coats may be required when applying to fresh or previously untreated timber.
Marks and scratches can be touched up without the requirement for sanding. Ensure areas to be repaired are clean and dry. To renovate large areas lightly sand with 120-150 grit sandpaper, remove dust and then apply a single, thin coat. ArmourFlex® Worktop Oil imparts a tough, resilient surface to the wood that resists typical daily wear and tear. To help retain the best appearance a good level of general care is advised. Clean surfaces with a none abrasive pH balanced cleaner such as Armourflex Wood Surface Cleaner and avoid scouring with abrasive creams or sponges.
Storage advice: Store upright and in a cool frost-free area between 5-30°C.
