Zinsser Grade 1 is a high-performance paint ideal for interior walls and ceilings in traditional and historic buildings, including churches, period properties and castles. This solvent-based paint has a vapour-permeable film which allows the surface to breathe whilst giving you a mould resistant surface. A primer, sealer, and finish in one, Grade 1 requires no washing down and no additional primer. The finish gives you resistance to cracking, flaking, and peeling and contains a biocide to protect the dried coating against fungal degradation

Note: Not intended for exterior surfaces or for application on floors or decks

Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry, sound, and free from any dust or possible contaminants that may interfere with adhesion.

• Wash the surface with an appropriate cleaning solution or solvent
• Remove excessive chalky material and any unsoundly adhered coatings
• Remove mould with an appropriate an cleaner, such as Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover
• Seal knots and sap streaks with Zinsser B-I-N Primer-Sealer

Note: Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960 paint surface as they may contain harmful lead.

Before applying we always recommend to test a small area of the surface to be treated to ensure you are happy with the finished results.

• Shake or stir well before application
• Apply using a high quality brush, roller or sprayer
• Ensure temperature is between 4° - 32°C
• Avoid working in direct sunlight, do not apply if wet weather is forecast
• Apply the first coat and allow to dry for 2 hours
• Apply a second coat, paint will fully cure in 7 days

Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.

Q. Do I need to prime the surface when using Zinsser Grade 1?

A. No, this product formulated to be a primer, sealer and finish in one and requires no additional priming.

Q. As Grade 1 is a solvent based paint, will this yellow? If so how often do I need to maintain this?

A. Unlike many solvent-based paints the Zinsser Grade 1 paint is formulated with non-yellowing properties to help retain the colour.

Q. Is Zinsser Grade 1 available in a satin or gloss finish?

A. This is only available in a flat matt finish.

Q. Can this paint stain block?

A. Yes, this product is made with unparalleled stain blocking properties and can hide stains such as soot, smoke, water, graffiti and nicotine.

We offer a 14 day money back guarantee for all goods shipped correctly that are not required. If the item is not required, please send the item back for a full refund in its original condition, unused with its original packaging. Please note return for unwanted item is at your own expense.

All tinted paint purchases are final and non-refundable. If you're unsure about your selection, please refer to the product listing or contact us for guidance before ordering. Once mixed, tinted paints cannot be returned or refunded, regardless of delivery delays or changes in circumstances.

While we aim to meet delivery timelines, we are not responsible for delays caused by couriers, weather, or other external factors.

We recommend ordering samples or colour charts before purchasing. While we strive to represent colours accurately, screen settings and surface types can affect appearance. Opened tins cannot be returned due to dissatisfaction with colour.

Incorrect Item

Faulty Items

Faulty items can be refunded or exchanged within 30 days. All returns are tested, and if no fault is found, no refund will be issued you'll have the option to have the item returned. For faults discovered after 30 days, please contact the manufacturer for further support.
