Tikkurila Valtti Opaque Exterior Paint - Tinted Colour Match

Tikkurila Valtti Opaque is a semi-matt wood paint designed to protect and enhance exterior timber surfaces.

Developed to withstand harsh Nordic weather conditions, this flexible coating moves naturally with the wood to help prevent cracking and peeling. Valtti Opaque forms a durable, water-resistant finish while still allowing water vapour to permeate, helping timber breathe and stay protected. Suitable for new and previously painted wood, it preserves the natural texture and character of timber for a long-lasting finish with low maintenance requirements.

Tinted Colour Information

Tinted paint is custom mixed in house at Next Day Paint using our Tikkurila tinting machine. We mix the paint on site, which means we can offer our usual fast delivery with no extra delay. Tinted Colour Match paints can't be cancelled or returned as they are tinted to order. Note: Depending on the amount of colourant required to mix your chosen colour, there may be up to a 10% variant on the advertised paint volume.

Clean Up	Remove as much product as possible from the equipment before cleaning with water

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and properly prepared before painting. Surfaces must be free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, rust, loose material and surface contamination.

• Remove all loose material from previously painted surfaces using a steel brush.
• Ensure glossy and previously gloss-painted surfaces are thoroughly flatted down before application.
• Ensure timber cladding, weatherboarding and glazing beads are securely fixed using non-corrosive fixings. Moisture content of the wood should be below 20% before painting.
• Mould and rust treatment: Wash mouldy surfaces with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal solution according to instructions. Treat rusting metal parts, such as nail heads, with Rostex Super Metal Primer.
• Wood species notice: Certain wood types including Oak, Teak, Cedar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany and Idigbo may contain oils or tannins that can affect adhesion, drying or cause discolouration. Particular attention should be given to preparation of these surfaces.
• Knot and resin staining: Discolouration may occur over knots and resinous areas, especially when using light colours, due to temperature and humidity changes.
• Prime all new bare wood as early as possible during construction and spot-prime bare areas on previously painted wood with Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase Priming Oil. Apply generously to end-grain areas.
• Preservative treatment: All exterior wood not pre-treated or vacuum impregnated with an approved preservative should receive a priming coat of Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase before painting.

Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results.

• Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
• Apply two coats on new surfaces. For maintenance painting, apply one or two coats depending on the condition of the substrate and colour difference. Impregnated wood finished in light colours may require two or three coats.
• Apply by brush or spray. Valtti Opaque is normally used unthinned, but may be thinned with water if necessary.
• Apply paint liberally to end-grain areas for maximum protection.
• All surfaces must be dry before painting. Apply when air temperatures are at least +5°C and relative humidity is below 80%.
• Coverage: Smooth wood: 8-10 m2/l per coat.Sawn wood: 4-8 m2/l per coat.

Note: If using more than one tin of the same colour, intermix prior to use to ensure colour consistency. Check tinted product before application to avoid colour differences.

Handle freshly painted surfaces with care, as full hardness and durability develop after approximately 4 weeks under normal conditions. During this period, clean only lightly using a soft brush, damp cloth or mop. After one month, surfaces can be cleaned with diluted Tikkurila Huoltopesu for general maintenance, or a stronger solution for stubborn dirt and stains. Rinse thoroughly and allow surfaces to dry after cleaning.

For maintenance repainting, Valtti Opaque can be recoated with a single coat when using the same colour.

Protect from frost and direct sunlight. Store and transport in tightly closed containers at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C.
