    Overview

Give metal surfaces a durable, professional metallic finish with Rust-Oleum CombiColor 7300 Sparkling Aluminium – Tinted Colour. This solvent-based metal coating combines primer and topcoat in one, providing an efficient solution for protecting and enhancing suitably prepared metal surfaces.

Based on a urethane-modified alkyd formulation, CombiColor 7300 offers good drying performance, including at lower temperatures. Its rust-inhibitive pigments provide corrosion protection for metal in light industrial environments, while the lead- and chromate-free formulation makes it a practical choice for a wide range of maintenance and refurbishment projects.

The Sparkling Aluminium metallic finish delivers an attractive aluminium-effect appearance, making it ideal where both protection and a decorative metallic finish are required. The coating can be applied by brush, roller or air-atomised spray, with spray application recommended where a more uniform metallic appearance is important.

For use on bare, manually derusted or suitably primed steel, Rust-Oleum CombiColor 7300 can also be used as part of a more comprehensive coating system. Galvanised, zinc and aluminium surfaces should first be treated with Rust-Oleum CombiColor Adhesion Primer 3302. For more aggressive industrial environments, Rust-Oleum recommends using CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion 3369/3380 before applying the topcoat.

    • Primer and topcoat in one
    • Metallic Sparkling Aluminium finish
    • Tinted colour match available
    • Suitable for steel and suitably prepared metal surfaces
    • Rust-inhibitive pigments for corrosion protection
    • Suitable for light industrial environments
    • Heat resistance up to 90°C dry heat; discolouration may occur at elevated temperatures

Please note: Metallic coatings can show variations in appearance depending on application method and surface conditions. For the most homogeneous appearance with aluminium-coloured coatings, spray application is recommended.

    Preparation

Proper surface preparation is essential for achieving good adhesion, corrosion protection and a high-quality metallic finish.

    • Clean the surface thoroughly. Remove oil, grease, dirt and other contaminants using an appropriate alkaline or high-pressure/steam cleaning method with a suitable detergent.
    • Remove loose material. Eliminate rust scale, loose mill scale, loose rust and poorly adhered existing coatings by scraping, wire brushing to St 3 (ISO 8501-1), light abrasive blasting or sanding.
    • Prepare existing sound coatings. Sand intact coatings to lightly roughen the surface and provide a suitable key for the new coating.
    • Galvanised, zinc and aluminium surfaces: Apply Rust-Oleum CombiColor Adhesion Primer 3302 before applying CombiColor 7300.
    • For steel in more aggressive industrial environments, use Rust-Oleum CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion 3369/3380 as the primer system where appropriate.
    • Ensure the surface is clean and completely dry before application.
    Application

Air, substrate and coating temperature should be between 5°C and 35°C. Relative humidity should be below 85%. The substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point. Stir the coating thoroughly before use to ensure a consistent finish and homogeneous colour.

    Brush Application

For brush application, use a natural-bristle, long-hair brush.

    • Thin with up to 10% Rust-Oleum Thinner 7301 by volume, where required.
    • Apply evenly while avoiding excessive brushing.
    • Allow sufficient drying time between coats.

    Roller Application

Use a short-nap polyamide roller, approximately 6–12 mm.

    • Thin with up to 10% Rust-Oleum Thinner 7301 by volume, if required.
    • Roller application may require two coats to achieve the recommended dry film thickness.
    • Work methodically to maintain an even appearance, particularly with the metallic finish.

    Air-Atomised Spray Application

For the most uniform appearance on Sparkling Aluminium and other aluminium-coloured metallic coatings, spray application is recommended.

    • Thin with 10–25% Rust-Oleum Thinner 7301 by volume.
    • Tip size: 1.0–1.5 mm
    • Atomising pressure: 2–4 bar
    • Suitable for gravity-cup and pressure-cup spray equipment.

For an especially homogeneous aluminium-coloured finish, Rust-Oleum recommends applying 7311 with HVLP.

Touch dry: approximately 2 hours, dry to handle: approximately 8 hours, dry to recoat: approximately 16 hours, fully cured: approximately 7 days. Lower temperatures increase drying times. At 10°C, touch dry is approximately 3 hours, dry to handle 16 hours, dry to recoat 24 hours and fully cured in approximately 14 days.

At 30°C, touch dry is approximately 1½ hours, dry to handle 6 hours, dry to recoat 8 hours and fully cured in approximately 5 days.

    Aftercare & Storage

Allow the coating to fully cure before subjecting the surface to heavy use, cleaning or demanding service conditions. Full curing is approximately 7 days at 20°C, although this will vary with temperature and environmental conditions.

    Once cured:

    • Clean coated surfaces using suitable, non-aggressive cleaning methods.
    • Avoid harsh abrasion that could damage the metallic finish.
    • Inspect the coating periodically for signs of mechanical damage, wear, corrosion or coating breakdown.
    • Repair damaged areas promptly by cleaning and preparing the affected area before recoating.
    • Avoid exposing the coating to temperatures above its recommended heat resistance. The coating is rated to approximately 90°C dry heat, and discolouration may occur at elevated temperatures.

Because metallic finishes can be visually sensitive to application technique, repairs should be blended carefully where possible to minimise differences in appearance.

    Storage

Store Rust-Oleum CombiColor 7300 in its original, unopened container in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

    Recommended storage conditions:

    • Temperature: 5°C to 35°C
    • Keep containers securely closed when not in use.
    • Protect from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
    • Keep away from ignition sources and follow the relevant safety information supplied with the product.

When stored correctly, the product has a minimum shelf life of 5 years from the date of production in unopened cans.

Always consult the product Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and safety information on the container before use.
