Proper surface preparation ensures optimal adhesion and long-lasting protection. Before applying Rust-Oleum 7300 CombiColor Original, make sure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Follow these steps for best results:
- Clean the surface: Remove oil, grease, and other contaminants using alkaline cleaning or high-pressure (steam) cleaning with appropriate detergents.
- Remove loose material: Scrape or wire brush away rust scale, loose mill scale, loose rust, and flaking coatings to St 3 standard (ISO 8501-1:1988).
- Smooth intact coatings: Lightly sand existing coatings to roughen the surface and promote adhesion.
- Blast or sand: Where necessary, use light blast cleaning or sanding to prepare metal surfaces.
- Ensure dryness: Make sure the surface is completely dry during application.
- Special surfaces: Galvanised, zinc, and aluminium surfaces must be primed first with CombiColor Adhesion Primer 3302.
Following these steps will help you achieve a smooth, durable finish that protects your metal surfaces effectively.
For optimal results, always ensure the coating is well-stirred and applied under suitable environmental conditions. Ideal application occurs when air, substrate, and coating temperatures are between 5°C and 35°C, relative humidity is below 85%, and the substrate is at least 3°C above the dew point.

Q. Can Rust-Oleum 7300 CombiColor Original be applied directly on rusted metal?
A. Yes! CombiColor Original 7300 is designed for direct application on bare or manually derusted metal. It contains rust-inhibitive pigments to protect surfaces and can be applied with a brush, roller, or spray. For heavily corroded or industrial metal, using CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion 3369/3380 first is recommended for extra protection.
Q. Is CombiColor Original 7300 suitable for both indoor and outdoor use?
A. Absolutely. This coating provides durable corrosion protection for metal surfaces in light industrial indoor and outdoor environments. It performs well on bare, rusted, or primed metal, and can withstand typical environmental conditions, including temperatures down to 5°C.
