- Remove all paint and dirt from the repair area. Loose, flaking, or contaminated surfaces will compromise adhesion. Always apply to a bare substrate for best results.
- Ensure the timber is thoroughly dry. Moisture in the substrate can affect curing and adhesion.
- Sand any raised wood fibres. For cracks and natural defects in new or unpainted wood (up to 6mm), lightly sand the contact surface before application.
- Clean away all dust and debris. Wipe down the prepared surface before applying the filler.
Note: It is recommended that completed repairs and adjacent untreated wood receive a primer coat within 7 days.
- Dispense the product: Squeeze DRY FLEX® Mini onto the mixing plate. The cartridge dispenses both components at the correct ratio automatically.
- Mix thoroughly: Using the EASY•Q™ application knives, mix components A and B until a completely uniform, homogenous colour is achieved.
- Spread to extend working time: Spread the mixed product in a thin layer across the mixing plate to extend the application period. Avoid placing in direct sunlight.
- Apply the filler: Apply DRY FLEX® Mini to the repair area and leave the surface smooth.
- Allow to cure: Typical curing times: 30 minutes at 20°C, or 1 hour at 5°C. Temperature and humidity will affect curing times.
- Sand and finish: Once fully cured, lightly sand before applying paint or stain. Apply a primer coat within 7 days.
Q. Can DRY FLEX® Mini be applied over existing paint?
A. DRY FLEX® SF adheres well to painted surfaces; however, the adhesion of the repair is only as strong as the bond between the paint and the underlying substrate. If the paint is at all loose, flaking, or poorly adhered, the repair may fail over time. For this reason, Repair Care always recommends applying DRY FLEX® products directly to a clean, bare substrate. Remove any existing paint and prepare the surface thoroughly for the most durable, long-lasting result.
Q. Does DRY FLEX® Mini need to be used with a primer?
A. No, one of the key advantages of DRY FLEX® Mini is that no primer is required before application. The product is formulated to bond directly to prepared bare substrates including timber, masonry, plaster, concrete, and metal. However, once your repairs are complete, it is recommended that the repaired areas and any adjacent untreated wood are given a primer coat within 7 days, before final painting or staining.
