Preparation
Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust or debris.
• Previous paints, varnishes and lacquers must be completely removed from the surface. There are three methods to remove old paints, varnishes and lacquers: sanding, hot air gun and chemical paint strippers
• Fill small cracks with an appropriate wood filler such as Osmo Wood Filler
• Sand wood surfaces carefully for older doors use a coarse sandpaper and finish with a 120-150 grade
• Clean thoroughly and remove all dust with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush
Note: If renovating veneered doors, always check with the door manufacture that renovation is possible
Application
Always test a small area of the surface to be treated to ensure you are happy with the finished colour
• Shake the product well, to avoid inconsistent colour
• Osmo Door oil is ready to use and does not need to be thinned
• Apply with either a brush or roller
• Apply a thin and even coat along the wood grain and spread well
• Always give good ventilation when drying
• Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time
• Apply second coat after 24 hours
Note: Always follow the manufacturer instructions found on the tin.
Aftercare & Storage
Cleaning
Keep your doors clean by dusting, alternatively you can use a damp cloth with Osmo Spray Cleaner for a more thorough clean. Multi-purpose cleaners such as washing up liquids and detergents are highly detrimental to the finished surface and are not recommended to be used as discolouration or staining may be possible.
Maintenance
Simply re-apply one coat onto the clean and dry surface when slight signs of wear become visible. To refresh the sheen on Osmo Door Oil 3060 clear satin, use clear Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner.
