HB42 PS1 Shellac Based Primer Sealer - White

HB42 PS1 is a premium white shellac-based primer-sealer, purpose-built for high performance, permanent stain blocking. Its new and improved 2025 formula is whiter and more opaque than ever, delivering a rapid matt finish that covers stubborn stains in a single coat.

Suitable for interior surfaces and spot priming on exteriors, HB42 PS1 is ideal for all interior woodwork, plaster, and hard-to-paint glossy surfaces such as tiles, varnish and gloss paintwork. Its advanced shellac formula offers excellent adhesion even to glass, seals bleeding knots and sap streaks, and provides outstanding enamel holdout on porous surfaces so topcoat paints achieve better, more even coverage.

Beyond stains, HB42 PS1 permanently blocks odours, including smoke, fire damage, pet and nicotine odours. The dried film is non-toxic and hypo-allergenic, making it safe for use in areas where incidental contact with food items may occur.

• Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from loose material, dust and grease.
• Sand glossy or varnished surfaces lightly to key the surface where practical.
• Spot treat isolated stains, knots or odour sources directly, or apply as a full coat for general priming.
• Stir well before use.

• Apply by brush, roller or spray in a single even coat.
• Allow to dry to touch for 1–2 hours before handling.
• Leave for 2–4 hours before over-coating with your chosen topcoat.
• Thin with white spirit only if required for spray application or difficult surfaces.
• Apply a second coat only if the stain, odour or knotting is particularly severe.

Tip: For maximum opacity and stain-blocking performance, apply a full, even coat rather than a thin or patchy one - the shellac formula is designed to do the job in a single pass.

Aftercare & Curing

• Allow the recommended dry and over-coating times before applying a topcoat, to ensure full holdout performance.
• Once dry, the sealed surface provides a stable, non-porous base - ideal for consistent topcoat colour and finish.
• The dried film is non-toxic and hypo-allergenic, suitable for areas with incidental food contact.
• Ensure good ventilation during application and drying, as with all shellac-based products.

Clean Up

• Clean brushes, rollers and spray equipment with white spirit immediately after use.
• Wipe away wet spills or splashes promptly with a white spirit-dampened cloth.
• Once dry, the product forms a hard shellac film that will require mechanical removal or a suitable solvent.
• Dispose of used cleaning materials and empty containers responsibly, in line with local regulations.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed when not in use, away from direct heat and ignition sources (flash point 42°C). Keep out of reach of children and away from food storage areas.

Q. Will one coat of HB42 PS1 really block stubborn stains like nicotine or water damage?

A. Yes. HB42 PS1 is specifically formulated as a one-coat stain blocker, sealing in stains such as nicotine, smoke, water damage, grease and knotting so they don't bleed through your topcoat. For particularly severe or deep-set stains, a second coat can be applied for extra assurance.

Q. Can HB42 PS1 be used outdoors?

A. HB42 PS1 is primarily designed for interior use, but it can also be used for spot priming on exterior surfaces, such as isolated knots, stains or repairs. It isn't intended as a complete exterior topcoat system.

Faulty Items

Faulty items can be refunded or exchanged within 30 days. All returns are tested, and if no fault is found, no refund will be issued you'll have the option to have the item returned. For faults discovered after 30 days, please contact the manufacturer for further support.
