Dulux Trade Wood Primer is an excellent primer for general use, suitable for all types interior or exterior hardwoods or softwoods. Applying a primer before painting wood helps to ensure a smoother finish. It seals the surface, which helps to provide superb adhesion and, under normal conditions, will provide good coverage of up to 15m2 per litre. If the surface you're priming is highly resinous, use Dulux Trade Aluminium Primer.

Preparation

For best results, ensure that the wood to be primed is sound, clean and dry. It's particularly important that new surfaces are completely dry before painting. Dirt, grease and wax must be removed.

Rub down previously painted surfaces thoroughly, preferably using 'wet flatting' methods, and wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth. Pre-1960s painted wood and metal need special precautions as they may contain harmful lead.

Treat any knots in wood with a knotting solution and fill any surface defects.

Application

Always follow the manufacturers instructions found on the tin. Do not apply in temperatures below 5 degrees celsius. This product must not be sprayed.

Stir thoroughly before use. Thinning is not necessary for general use, however if you're priming hardwood, apply up to 1 part white spirit to 10 parts paint.

Apply one coat of Dulux Trade Wood Primer to all bare wood. Go with the grain and make sure you cover the entire area with no gaps. Use a brush only. Allow to dry

Aftercare & Storage

Keep in a dry place away from extremes of temperature.

Protect the tin from frost.

Store and transport upright with the lid firmly sealed.
