A little prep goes a long way toward a finish that lasts. Before you pick up a brush:

• Make sure surfaces are sound, clean and completely dry, new masonry especially must be fully dry before painting.
• Wash down previously painted walls with a detergent solution to shift dirt, grease and chalky residue, then rinse well with clean water and leave to dry.
• Scrape back any flaking, poorly adhering or defective paint to a firm edge, and rub down to key and feather the edges of existing coatings.
• Take extra care with pre-1960s paintwork on wood or metal, as it may contain lead, always follow appropriate safety precautions.
• Treat any mould, algae, lichen or moss with a suitable fungicidal wash before you start painting.
• ill small cracks and holes with an appropriate filler; use a sand and cement mix for larger repairs.
• Leave to dry fully.
• Seal new or bare surfaces with a thinned first coat of Weathershield Masonry High Gloss (up to 1 part water to 5 parts paint) to lock everything in for the top coats.

• Stir thoroughly before use. Weathershield Masonry High Gloss can be applied by brush, roller, conventional spray or airless spray, giving you flexibility whether you're tackling a small patch repair or a full exterior repaint.
• Sealing new or bare surfaces: thin the first coat with up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint to help the paint key into the substrate.
• Finishing coats: for most jobs, 2 full coats of Weathershield Masonry High Gloss will deliver the best, most durable finish. If you're painting over a previously painted surface in good condition with a similar colour, 1 coat may be enough, saving you time and paint.
• Coverage: up to 13m² per litre, though this will vary depending on the porosity and texture of your surface.

Drying times: touch dry in just 1-2 hours, and ready to recoat in 4-6 hours, perfect for keeping your project moving. Bear in mind that cold, damp or humid conditions will extend drying times, so plan around dry, mild weather where possible.

Q. Can I apply Weathershield Masonry High Gloss over old solvent-based masonry paint?

A. Yes, that's one of the best things about this paint. As long as the existing coating is sound and properly prepared, Weathershield Masonry High Gloss can be applied straight over previously painted masonry, including old solvent-based finishes, so there's no need to strip everything back to bare brick.

Q. How many coats of Weathershield Masonry High Gloss will I need?

A. For most projects, 2 full coats will give you the best, most even finish. If you're repainting a surface that's already in good condition and sticking with a similar colour, 1 coat can often do the job, handy if you're working to a tight timeline or budget.
