Overview

Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer is a solvent based masonry primer specifically formulated to seal unstable areas of masonry that are still powdery and chalky after the surface has been thoroughly prepared for painting.

Use it to seal powdery and chalky masonry surfaces only. This product should not be used as a general purpose sealer on normal or sound surfaces. New or sound bare surfaces should only be sealed with a thinned first coat of the masonry paint itself.

  • Ready to use

Drying Time 8-12 Hours
Re-Coat Time 16-24 Hours - significantly longer in the cold and damp
Recommended Coats 1 Coat
Application Method Brush, Roller

Clean Up Remove as much paint as possible from the equipment before cleaning with brush cleaner
Preparation

For best results, make sure that surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry.

  • All surfaces should be thoroughly scraped and brushed to remove any loose or flaking paint and dirt. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre- 1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
  • Carefully remove any organic growth or mould from the masonry, scraping and brushing again using a fibre brush. A stiff fibre brush will give better results than a wire brush, as any wire that becomes embedded in the wall will rust, and stain the new paint.
  • The area should then be treated with Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash.
  • Make good any surface imperfections using an appropriate filler. Larger holes and cracks should be filled with a sand and cement mix.
Application

We always recommend performing a test patch on a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results.

  • Apply with a brush or roller only. Do not spray.
  • Do not seal new or bare surfaces.
  • Seal chalky areas with one coat of Dulux Stabilising Primer.
  • Allow to dry for 24 hours and apply two coats of Weathershield Masonry Paint or a suitable Masonry Paint.

Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.

Aftercare & Storage

FAQs

Q. Why use Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer?

A. Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer is specifically designed to be used on exterior surfaces that have areas of unstable or powdery paint, such as masonry, concrete, or pebbledash. It provides a strong base for subsequent coats of paint, ensuring better adhesion and durability of the finish.

Q. When should I use a stabilising primer?

A. This primer is formulated to penetrate and bind unstable or powdery surfaces, effectively stabilizing them and preventing further deterioration. It helps to create a solid foundation for the paint system. By creating a stable and secure base, Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer contributes to the long-term durability of the paint system. It helps the paint to resist cracking, blistering, and other forms of damage caused by weathering or moisture.
