Dowsil 817 Premium Mirror Silicone Sealant and Adhesive is a high-performance, versatile solution designed for internal mirror fixing, glass splashbacks, and perimeter pointing. Formulated to react with air moisture, it provides exceptional adhesion to a wide range of surfaces, including glass, metals, and various mirror coatings. This non-corrosive and virtually odourless sealant adheres effectively to both porous and non-porous surfaces without the need for a primer, ensuring easy application and a reliable, durable bond.

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, sound, and grease-free. Remove any release agents, water repellents, laitance, dust, dirt, old sealants, and other contaminants that might impair adhesion.

• To clean and degrease surfaces, wipe them with a clean, oil- and lint-free cloth dampened with a suitable solvent, such as DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner, before applying the sealant.
• Verify that the mirror has an even coating, is properly protected by lacquer, and is free of scratches.

Important Note: When using any solvent, ensure proper ventilation in the area. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. Wear solvent-resistant gloves and follow all safety precautions provided on the solvent container’s label.

The sealant is ready for immediate use. Cut the tip off the cartridge and screw on the nozzle and cut the nozzle to the desired bead size. We recommend using the Geocel Cox Skeleton Gun for application.

• Apply vertical strips of sealant, approximately 10 mm wide, on the back of the mirror at 100 mm intervals.
• Press the mirror onto the surface, ensuring a consistent bead thickness of 2 mm for optimal curing and mechanical adhesion.
• Use adhesive tape to support the mirror for at least 24 hours to ensure proper contact and minimize movement.
• Ensure that air can freely circulate around the edges of the mirror to facilitate proper curing of the sealant.

Always follow the manufacturers instructions found on the cartridge.

Please Note: Do not apply DOWSIL 817 Mirror Adhesive on bituminous substrates, surfaces made of natural rubber, chloroprene, or EPDM, or on building materials that may release oils, plasticizers, or solvents. Avoid using DOWSIL 817 Mirror Adhesive in completely enclosed spaces, as the sealant needs exposure to atmospheric moisture to cure properly. This adhesive is not suitable for submerged applications or areas where it may be subject to heavy abrasion or physical wear.

A. No, DOWSIL™ 817 Mirror Adhesive is not recommended for outdoor use or submerged applications. It is designed for interior use only, where it is protected from prolonged exposure to water.

Q. How long does DOWSIL™ 817 Mirror Adhesive take to cure?

A. The adhesive requires atmospheric moisture to cure, so the curing time will depend on the humidity and temperature of the environment. It is recommended to allow the adhesive to cure for at least 24 hours for optimal adhesion.

Faulty Items
