Before applying Coo-Var Masonry Stabiliser, proper surface preparation is essential to ensure optimal performance:
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, dirt, and any other contaminants.
- Remove any loose or flaking material using a stiff brush or suitable scraping tool.
- Treat any areas affected by mould or algae with an appropriate fungicidal wash and allow to dry completely.
- Repair any cracks or damage in the substrate prior to application.
- Allow new plaster, render, or masonry to fully cure before applying the stabiliser.
Ensure adequate preperation for best results. Mix thoroughly before use to ensure an even consistency.
- Apply evenly using a brush or roller, ensuring full penetration into porous areas.
- Allow the surface to fully absorb the product. Do not over-apply or allow it to pool.
- Avoid application in damp conditions or if rain is expected before the product has fully dried.
- Apply under conditions that follow normal good painting practice.
- Do not apply if the substrate or ambient temperature is below 7°C or above 30°C.
- In confined or enclosed spaces, ensure adequate ventilation during both application and drying to allow proper curing and to minimise vapour build-up.
Q. What is a masonry stabiliser and how does it work?
A. A masonry stabiliser is a protective solution designed to reinforce and protect masonry surfaces such as brick, stone, and mortar. It works by penetrating deep into the material, binding loose particles, and providing a stable, water-resistant bond. This process strengthens the structure and prevents further deterioration, helping to preserve the appearance and integrity of the masonry, particularly in areas exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Q. When should I use a masonry stabiliser?
A. You should use a masonry stabiliser when dealing with crumbling or deteriorating stone, brick, or mortar surfaces. It is especially beneficial for historic buildings, as it helps maintain their structural integrity and appearance. Additionally, it can be applied to new constructions to prevent future degradation, providing long-term protection against environmental factors like weathering, moisture, and mold.
