Preparation

Always ensure the substrate is clean, sound, and appropriately prepared before painting. Use suitable primers and intermediate coats for each type of substrate to guarantee adhesion, durability, and an even finish.

Wood / Timber Products

  • Interior: Sand and clean the surface. Prime with Capacryl HolzIsoGrund and apply Capacryl PU-Vorlack as intermediate coat. Finish with Capacryl PU-Matt.
  • Dimensionally stable wood: Apply two intermediate coats according to BFS Data Sheet No. 18. Always apply Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund on wood containing water-soluble, discolouring substances (2 coats on knots). Match intermediate coat shade to finishing coat. Red, yellow, or orange tints may require an additional coat for full opacity.

Metal Surfaces

  • Iron / Steel (Interior): Derust and clean, then prime with Capalac AllGrund.
  • Zinc (Galvanised): Prime with Capacryl Haftprimer.
  • Aluminium / Copper: Prime with Capacryl Haftprimer.

Rigid PVC (Interior)

  • Prime with Capacryl Haftprimer (see BFS Data Sheet No. 22).

Sound Existing Paint Coatings

  • Sand the surface, prepare and prime defects according to the substrate, then apply Capacryl Haftprimer.

Intermediate & Finishing Coats

  • Always match the intermediate coat to the shade of the finishing coat.
  • Test adhesion for powder coatings, coil coatings, or other critical substrates with a trial application.
  • Approximate consumption: 100–120 ml/m² per coat; best established by a trial area on site.

Application Conditions

  • Minimum temperature for product, substrate, and ambient air: 8 °C.
  • Maximum relative humidity: 70%.
  • At 20 °C / 65% RH: Dust dry: 1–2 hours, recoatable (by brush): 10–12 hours, completely dry: 48 hours.

Lower temperatures and higher humidity will extend drying times.

Application

For best results always follow the manufacturers instructions.

  • Stir the product thoroughly before use.
  • Suitable for brush, roller, or spray equipment.

Brush:

  • Use a high-quality brush for smooth, even coverage.

Roller:

  • For large surfaces, apply with a short-pile textured polyamide (nylon) roller.
  • Immediately smooth over with a fine-porous foam roller or high quality brush to achieve an even finish.

By Spray:

  • Adjust tool size according to surface area for fast and consistent coverage.
  • Airless: 0.008–0.011 inch nozzle, 200 bar pressure.
  • Airmix / Aircoat: 0.011–0.013 inch nozzle, 120 bar gun pressure, 2–3 bar air pressure.
  • Low Pressure: 1.8–2.2 mm nozzle, ~0.5 bar air pressure, max. 15% dilution.
  • High Pressure: 2.0–2.5 mm nozzle, 2–3 bar air pressure, max. 15% dilution.

Tips for Best Results:

Ensure tools and substrate are clean before starting. Work in manageable sections to maintain a wet edge and avoid visible overlap marks. For large areas, maintain smooth, even strokes to prevent streaks and ensure uniform sheen.

Aftercare & Storage
