For the best results with Bedec paints, always take time to prepare your surfaces properly. Good preparation ensures maximum adhesion, durability, and a flawless finish.
- General cleaning – Make sure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, grease, and wax.
- Remove old paint – Strip away any loose, flaking, or defective coatings.
- Mould & algae – Remove growths and treat with a suitable fungicidal wash.
- Glossy surfaces – Lightly abrade smooth or shiny areas to provide a key for the paint.
- Steel & metal – Bare steel must be free from rust, scale, and dust before applying Bedec All Metals Primer in Phosphate Grey or Red Oxide. No need to pre-prime galvanised steel, but allow new galvanising to weather for 2 months.
-
Timber –
- Pressure-treated wood: allow at least 6 months weathering before painting.
- Denatured or greyed wood: abrade back to reveal fresh cells.
- New planed, finished, or PSE timber: lightly sand to open the grain for better penetration.
- New creosote: allow 3 months weathering before painting.
- Porous substrates – For untreated wood, new wood, cement, render, plaster, or brickwork, thin the first coat with 30% clean water to improve absorption.
- Stain risk – Where extractive discolouration is possible, apply Bedec Stain Block. Always test a small area of MSP first. Knots should also be treated with Bedec Stain Block (knotting solution is not recommended).
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the tin. We recommend carrying out a small test patch before full application to ensure you are satisfied with both adhesion and colour.
- Stir the paint thoroughly with a flat stirrer or similar tool
- Avoid painting when air or surface temperatures are below 8°C, or if rain is expected before the paint has fully dried
- Can be applied by brush, roller, conventional H.V.L.P., or airless spray
- Apply 2-3 coats on sealed surfaces, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next
- Do not over-spread the paint
Note: Spraying can reduce coverage depending on the equipment used. For example, airless spray systems may reduce coverage to approximately 6-8 m² per litre per coat.
Q. Can Bedec Multi Surface Paint be colour-matched to my preferred shade?
A. Absolutely! Bedec Multi Surface Paint can be tinted to your exact colour requirements, giving you a perfect match for any project. Whether you’re painting wood, metal, plastic, masonry, or other surfaces, the high-quality water-based formula ensures excellent coverage, durability, and a smooth, professional finish. Always test a small area first to confirm the shade and adhesion before applying to the entire surface.
