Overview
Barrettine Raw Linseed Oil is a traditional, all natural oil derived from the extract of flax seed. It penetrates unsealed wood, leaving a lovely natural water resistant finish that darkens slightly as it ages. For use on oak beams, bean canes, cricket bats and many other woodcrafts. It can also be used as a lubricant for french polishing or to soften putty.
Do not use on furniture or flooring, or on wood that has been previously painted or varnished
Recommended Use | Woodcraft and oak beams |
Coverage | Up to 12m2 per litre |
Drying Time | 6-7 Days to fully cure |
Re-Coat Time | 24 Hours |
Recommended Coats | 3 Coats |
Preparation
Make sure that the surface to be oiled is clean & dry, wipe with white spirit to remove any grease. Can only be applied to bare wood or previously oiled wood, not to painted or varnished surfaces.
Application
Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.
Apply the oil generously with a lint free cloth or brush. Allow it to absorb for 20 minutes, then remove excess oil and allow 24 hours between each coat. Apply a minimum of 3 coats or more until you achieve the desired finish. As this is a natural product, it is slow drying. Allow 6-7 days to cure under normal drying conditions after the last coat. Raw Linseed Oil can be diluted for the first application 1:1 with white spirit to improve absorption. Regular re-oiling will be necessary for some applications. Coverage will depend upon substrate porosity but is typically 8 - 12 square metres per litre.
Aftercare & Storage
Replace cap firmly. Store away from heat and flames. Keep container upright and secure at all times.
