Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint is a durable, corrosion resistant, decorative coating. The decorative hammered appearance is smooth to the touch and sheds water well. Hammerite metal paints are formulated to perform as a primer, undercoat and topcoat in one. It can be applied directly onto rusty metal with either a brush or roller. Hammerite hammered finish paint is available in a range of colours including Black, Dark Green, Red and Silver.

Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, dirt, grease, flaking paint or rust.
- Remove all loose rust and flaking paint from the metal using a wire brush.
- Remove dirt and dust with diluted detergent.
- For smooth metal surfaces, lightly abrade with a 240 grit sandpaper for maximum adhesion.
- On bare zinc, aluminium and galvanised surfaces firstly apply Hammerite Special Metals Primer.
- Cover surrounding areas to catch any overspray or drips.
Before applying the Hammered Direct to Rust Metal Paint test a small area and leave for 1 hour to ensure compatability. If there is no reaction apply the hammered paint directly to surface.
- If there is a reaction remove all paint before applying Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint.
- Do not apply in temperatures below 8˚C or above 25˚C.
- Lightly stir before application, it is advised to not thin this product.
- Apply with a narrow brush for railings and a broad brush on larger metal objects, such as a garden table.
- On previously painted metal in sound condition, one coat should be sufficient.
- On bare/rusty metal, two coats will be required for full depth of colour.
- Ensure edges and corners are adequately covered to give the surface maximum durability.
- Do not over apply as sagging will occur, be especially careful on vertical surfaces such as railings.
Note: Always follow the manufacturer instructions found on the tin.
Q. What does hammered mean?
A. A hammered coating looks as though it has been repeatedly hit with a small hammer, without damaging the paint or the substrate. It leaves you with a subtle effect and has a metallic sheen. Hammerite Hammered paint is still smooth to touch and the small dimples will shed water.
Q. Can Hammerite Hammered Direct To Rust Metal Paint prevent rust?
A. The Hammerite Direct to Rust paints can prevent rust from metal appearing through the surface. The special formulation acts like a barrier as it contains anti-corrosive pigments that stop the formation of rust.
Q. Can you use hammerite direct to rust metal paint on radiators?
A. We would not recommend using the Hammerite Direct to Rust paints on radiators as it's not specially designed to be resistant to heat, instead use Hammerite Radiator Enamel Metal Paint
