Crown Trade Primer Undercoat - Tinted Colour Match

Crown Trade Primer Undercoat is a solvent-based basecoat designed to deliver maximum performance when used under Crown Trade Gloss. With excellent adhesion, opacity, and obliteration, it provides a smooth, even surface for a flawless topcoat finish. Tinted Colour Information

Tinted paint is custom mixed in house at Next Day Paint using our Crown Trade tinting machine. We mix the paint on site, which means we can offer our usual fast delivery with no extra delay.

Tinted Colour Match paints can't be cancelled or returned as they are tinted to order.

A tinted primer can be used to help obtain the true depth of colour for your top coat or to reduce the amount of coats required when a drastic colour change is occurring. A tinted primer will not necessarily be the same colour as your selected topcoat. It will be tinted towards the topcoat colour and generally lighter in shade. For example if your topcoat is black your primer may be a shade of grey. If you are unsure about when a tinted primer is required please contact us and we can advise further.

All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.

New Metals

• Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface excluding galvanised surfaces.
• Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water.
• Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry.
• When dry prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

Galvanised Metal

• Bright galvanised surfaces should be thoroughly degreased as per new metals, then pre-treated with a T Wash. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface degreasing.
• When dry prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

Non Ferrous Metals

• Prime bare metal with one coat ofCrown Trade Universal Metal Primer followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

Ferrous Metals

• Remove all millscale and surface rust back to clean bright metal.
• Remove all residues.
• Prime bare metal with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

Previously Decorated Metal Surfaces

• Remove all loose and failing or suspect paint.
• Feather edges of sound paint.
• Remove all dust. Remove all rust.
• Spot prime all bare metalwork with Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer.
• Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water.
• Wet abrade to provide a key.
• Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry.
• Bring forward spot primed areas with one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

New Wood Surfaces

• Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper and round sharp edges to a 1-3mm radius. Remove all dust.
• Timber with oils/extractives must be swabbed with clean methylated spirits, frequently changing the face of the cloths.
• Treat any knots with two coats of fresh knotting.
• Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with Sandtex Ready Mixed Filler or 2 pack wood filler.
• Apply one coat of Crown Trade Wood Primer followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

Previously Decorated Wood Surfaces

• Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint.
• Remove grey and denatured surfaces by rubbing down with abrasive paper. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust.
• Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with Sandtex Trade Fungicidal Solution.
• Remove any defective putty glazing, clean and prime rebates, replacement putties must be allowed to form a hard skin.
• Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting.
• Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with Sandtex Trade Ready Mixed Filler or a two pack proprietary wood filler.
• Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water.
• Wet abrade to provide a key.
• Rinse with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry.
• Spot prime bare and filled areas with one coat of Crown Trade Aluminium Wood Primer followed by one coat of Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.

Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results

• Stir well before and during use.
• Apply 1 coat by brush or roller to an even thickness (using good quality tools – synthetic or bristle brush or short/medium pile roller). Maintain a wet edge.

NOTE: Crown Trade products are formulated to the highest quality, however recent changes made to meet the reduced solvent levels required by current legislation may in certain circumstances, such as lack of daylight, lead to white and very pale colours yellowing over time.

Under normal and frost free conditions this product will remain usable for up to two years if stored correctly and unopened. Store in secure dry conditions between 5°C and 40°C and inaccessible to children or animals. Containers should be kept closed during storage.

However, due to their bespoke nature, please allow up to an additional 5 working days to accommodate any potential courier delays or delivery issues before receiving a refund or replacement.

While we aim to meet delivery timelines, we are not responsible for delays caused by couriers, weather, or other external factors.

We recommend ordering samples or colour charts before purchasing. While we strive to represent colours accurately, screen settings and surface types can affect appearance. Opened tins cannot be returned due to dissatisfaction with colour.

Incorrect Item

Faulty Items

Faulty items can be refunded or exchanged within 30 days. All returns are tested, and if no fault is found, no refund will be issued you'll have the option to have the item returned. For faults discovered after 30 days, please contact the manufacturer for further support.
