Overview
Pyroshield Durable Matt from Dulux Trade is a flame retardant finish for normal interior walls and ceilings that upgrades substrates of fire classification from Class 3 to Class O (tested to BS476, parts 6 and 7).
Chemical Resistance: Not suitable.
Heat Resistance: Not suitable for heated surfaces such as radiators.
Water Resistance: Will tolerate the levels of atmospheric humidity present in normal interior environments and will withstand moderate washing.
NOTE: Before preparation or application, particular attention must be paid to the detailed instructions regarding stability of previous coatings and the mandatory film requirements.

Preparation
For best results, ensure that the surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry. It is particularly important that new surfaces are fully dry before proceeding. Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all dirt, grease and any surface contamination that could affect the adhesion of subsequent coatings.
Remove all blistered, poorly adhering or otherwise defective coatings. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
Fill any surface defects with the appropriate filler. Spot prime all such exposed areas with Pyroshield Durable Matt from Dulux Trade. Ensure surfaces are fully dry before finish coating.
PLEASE NOTE: For any flame retardant system to be successful, it is paramount that all previous coatings are stable and firmly adhering to the underlying substrate. When applying water-based systems to previous coatings that are known, or suspected to be, solvent-based, or which exhibit a very glossy or very hard impermeable surface the following preparation is recommended:
Thoroughly clean down the surfaces to remove all dirt, grease and surface contaminants; whilst wet, to produce the necessary ‘key’ for good adhesion by rubbing down sound areas with waterproof abrasive paper or pads and ‘feather’ broken edges of existing coatings. Rinse off and allow to dry. Allow the surface to fully dry before proceeding.
This product can be applied over new work, in which case a mist coat is advised.
Application
NOTE: It is paramount that you follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin
As recommended by British Standard BS 6150, do not use Dulux Trade Pyroshield or any water based paint in temperatures below 8 degrees celsius.
Stir thoroughly before use. To achieve fire classification, apply 2 coats at 12m2/l* (this equates to 2 coats, each coat at a wet film thickness of 85 microns and dry film thickness of 30 microns). Do not thin. For sealed surfaces it is recommended that the substrate is lightly abraded before application. Over some sealed surfaces it may not be possible to achieve the recommended spreading rate on the first coat, and more than two coats may be required to achieve sufficient film build.
*This is the minimum film required to upgrade surfaces of fire classification from Class 3 to Class O (BS476).
Thinning
Sealing new or bare surfaces: Application may be thinned for new work up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint. However, flame upgrade properties will not be achieved without further application of 2 coats at a wet film thickness of 85 microns.
Normal use: Do not thin this product.
Airless spray: Do not thin this product.
Aftercare & Storage
Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost. Store and transport upright to prevent spillage.
