Overview
Dulux Trade Pyroshield Durable Eggshell is a water-based flame retardant finish suitable for interior use on new or previously painted walls and ceilings, and on substrates such as plasterboard, plaster, cement render and blockwork. Not for use on wood or metal substrates. It upgrades wall and ceiling substrates of fire classification from Class 3 to Class O* (tested to BS476, parts 6 and 7).
Before preparation or application, pay particular attention to the detailed instructions regarding stability of previous coatings and the mandatory film build requirements.

Preparation
To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry). Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all dirt, grease and any surface contamination that could affect the adhesion of subsequent coatings.
Remove all blistered, poorly adhering or otherwise defective coatings. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
Any surface defects should be filled with the appropriate filler. Spot prime all such exposed areas with Pyroshield Durable Eggshell. Ensure surfaces are fully dry before finish coating.
PLEASE NOTE: For any flame retardant system to be successful, it is paramount that all previous coatings are stable and firmly adhering to the underlying substrate. When applying water-based systems to previous coatings that are known, or suspected to be, solvent-based, or which exhibit a very glossy or very hard impermeable surface the following preparation is recommended:
Thoroughly clean down the surfaces to remove all dirt, grease and surface contaminants; whilst wet, to produce the necessary ‘key’ for good adhesion by rubbing down sound areas with waterproof abrasive paper or pads and ‘feather’ broken edges of existing coatings. Rinse off and allow to dry. Allow the surface to fully dry before proceeding.
This product can be applied over new work, in which case a mist coat is advised.
Thinning
Sealing new or bare surfaces: Application may be thinned for new work up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint. However, flame upgrade properties will not be achieved without further application of 2 coats at a wet film thickness of 85 microns.
Normal use: Do not thin.
Airless spray application: Do not thin.Application
NOTE: It is essential that you follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.
In order to achieve fire classification, apply 2 coats at 12m2 per litre**. (this equates to 2 coats, each coat at a wet film thickness of 85 microns and dry film thickness of 30 microns each). Do not thin.
For sealed surfaces it is recommended that the substrate is lightly abraded before application. Over some sealed surfaces it may not be possible to achieve the recommended spreading rate on the first coat, and more than two coats may be required to achieve sufficient film build. **This is the minimum film required to upgrade surfaces of fire classification from Class 3 to Class O (BS476).
Aftercare & Storage
Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost. Store and transport upright to prevent spillage.
